Never Assume
Never Assume

Hi boys and girls. Where is your favorite place to hang out with your friends at school? There's a story told of two friends named Mia and Jordan and their favorite place to hang out was on the couch in their classroom. Normally after lunch they would go and hang out but there was one particular day that everybody wanted to go and play kickball. So after Buddy was done eating they went outside and they lined up. Jordan was chosen as a team captain and they started to pick teams.
Mia meanwhile, while she did get outside and head towards the field, noticed that there was a butterfly as soon as she got out of the field and started watching it because butterflies were one of her favorite creatures in all of the world. But then next thing she knew, everybody was playing kickball without her. And this kind of upset her because her best friend Jordan should have at least tried to pick her. Why didn't she say anything?
So she was kind of mad. She looked at the field one last time and then stomped back to the classroom and sat on her favorite couch. Well, after the round of kickball was done, Jordan excused herself, went to the classroom and said, hey, you didn't want to play kickball? And Mia looks at her kind of just glares, said, you didn't choose me.
And Jordan said, "Well, I'm sorry. You were looking at the butterfly and I know how much you love butterflies, so I thought you wanted to just watch the butterfly." And Mia said, "No, I wanted to play. You should have said something." And then she thought about it. "You know what, though? That's not fair. I should have been paying attention. My bad." And she said, "I'm sorry." And Jordan said, "You know what? I'm sorry, too. I should have asked. I mean, I was picking teams.
but I shouldn't have assumed that you wanted to just watch the butterfly." And there, they sat on the couch and caught up on their favorite TV show. Boys and girls, sometimes we have misunderstandings or we assume things, and we should never do that. You know, we should never assume anything about anybody. And sometimes when we have disagreements, because disagreements are going to come, it's part of life, part of relationships, the important thing is to talk about it, not just brush it off.
If you're upset with somebody, talk to them. Tell them why. And, you know, because if you're mad at somebody and they have no idea and you just don't say anything, they're going to notice. But it's important also to talk about it and why. Share the why. And hopefully you can come to a peaceful resolution. So with that, boys and girls, take care and let's pray. Dear Jesus, Lord, thank you for all of our boys and girls here.
Lord, sometimes we have misunderstandings and we assume things and we get mad at each other. Help us, Lord, to be faithful and to talk to that person when they've upset us. Or if we notice that somebody's mad, help us to have the courage to talk and to find a good resolution. In Jesus' name, amen. Take care, boys and girls.
